The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police has detained seventeen people, including two deputy directors and an assistant director of the PSC, over allegations of leaking recruitment questions for the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations.
The arrestees include PSC chairman`s former chauffeur Abed Ali and his son Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, who is the Relief and Disaster Management Secretary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League`s Dhaka North unit, reports The Business Standard this evening citing a CID official.
The CID arrested them carrying out raids at various spots across the country over the last two days.
Hailing from Dasar upazila of Madaripur, Syed Abed Ali was already a controversial figure for amassing huge amount of wealth.
He owns a number of houses in Dhaka as well as cattle farms and other properties, as per his own social media disclosures, though he claims his business earnings helped fuel his wealth.
Earlier, private television Channel 24 investigated and aired a news on the question leak of the exams conducted by the BPSC.
The media reported that at least two deputy directors of PSC, and a driver Syed Abed Ali were involved in the question leak. Even, the media reported on Abed`s immense wealth.
According to the report, the question-leak gang chose the recruitment test for the deputy assistant engineer of the railway held on July 5 (Friday). A copy of the question was sent to the WhatsApp number of jobseekers by the syndicate at least one hour before the examination.
Before any BPSC recruitment test, the gang used to amass a huge amount of money by leaking and selling questions, the channel reported.
In this regard, a high official of the CID, requesting anonymity, told The Daily Star, "The drive to arrest the question leak gang is underway, and details will be disclosed soon."
